In this type of interpreting, also known as simultaneous translation, the interpreter translates what the speaker says in real time, just a few seconds after the original speech, from within a sound-proof booth fully equipped with an interpreting system, microphones and earphones. It is usually used in congresses, lectures, courses or longer meetings with a large number of participants.
CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING
in consecutive interpreting, the interpreter listens carefully and takes notes of the speaker's message for a few minutes and, then, translates it to the audience. This type of interpreting is recommended for short events, since it takes approximately twice as long as simultaneous interpreting.
WHISPERED INTERPRETING
Like in the simultaneous mode, the interpreter translates the original in real time, but with no booth or equipment, whispering the translation to the interested parties. It is used when only one or two persons need translation services, usually in meetings with a small number of participants.
ESCORT INTERPRETING
The interpreter accompanies a person or delegation to visits, meeting and other appointments, enabling the communication between them and other groups of people. In escort interpreting, the interpreter may use the simultaneous (with the help of portable equipment), consecutive, or even whispered mode.
